Homa Bay Couple Arrested for Allegedly Burning Their Son’s Hands for Stealing Fish

Why Homa Bay couple burnt their son

Reports indicate that the couple assaulted their son after he allegedly stole and ate fish from their kitchen.

The couple was arrested on the evening of Monday, June 23, at their home in Ramoya village. The two are alleged to have burnt their Grade Three son using a molten plastic carrier bag.

Kajwang’ sub-location assistant chief of Enos Nyawade, who initiated the arrest, said the case was brought to his attention by neighbours.

He said the mother took plastic carrier bags, which she set on fire, and placed the hands of her child below the fire.

"I received information at around 9pm that Lencer Atieno and Apiyo Arong'a, who are the parents of the said Grade Three pupil, collectively burnt his hands for having eaten fish from the kitchen without permission. I went to that home and confirmed that the allegations were true and the mother accepted that she did it," Nyawade explained to TUKO.co.ke.

The child was later taken to the Kabondo Dispensary for medical attention, while his parents were taken to the Ndhiwa Police Station.

According to the area assistant chief, further inquiries established that the couple had previously forced the child to eat the whole fish.

Homa Bay chief's advise to parents

He condemned the incident and advised parents to ensure they take good care of their children and avoid punishments that may end up harming them.

“It is the parents' food that a child should eat, not any other person's. People look for food for their children to eat, and, unfortunately, some parents don't want their children to eat the food they bring home," the administrator said.

Ndhiwa sub-county police commander John Losia, who confirmed the incident, said that the couple were detained at Ndhiwa Police Station.

They are expected to be jointly charged in court for the incident.

Nakuru father assaults daughter for eating his avocados

TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported a similar incident in Njoro, Nakuru county, where a man is alleged to have assaulted his daughter for eating his avocados.

Police said the man identified as Robert Bett left his 11-year-old daughter nursing serious cut injuries as a result of the assault.

The girl was taken to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital, where her wounds were stitched and other medical examinations were done.

The man, however, went into hiding after the incident, and police were pursuing him.
