Among the most harrowing scenes was that of Police Constable Emily Kinya, a mother of two, who was attacked by a mob along Muindi Mbingu Street in Nairobi during the chaos.

What happened to Emily Kinya?

Kinya, who was on routine deployment to monitor the protests, was overpowered by protesters armed with stones and crude weapons.

In the heat of the moment, she was struck on the foot, stumbled, and fell to the ground. As the crowd closed in, she sustained multiple injuries, including a head wound.

From her hospital bed, a visibly shaken Kinya recounted the terrifying ordeal.

While her uniform offered no protection, a surprising act of humanity emerged from the crowd.

A young protester, dressed in green, stepped in to shield her from further harm, standing between her and the angry mob and helping defuse what could have turned deadly.

Moved by the selfless act, Nakuru-based police officer Sammy Ondimu has launched a public appeal to identify the Good Samaritan.

Why is Sammy Ondimu searching for the Good Samaritan?

In a heartfelt message posted online, Ondimu praised the young man’s courage, calling him a 'hero' and pledging to meet and reward him personally.

“He shielded her. He stood between her and the crowd. He chose humanity over hate. I don’t know his name, but I saw his heart. I want to meet him, thank him, and reward him with a small token of appreciation. The Kenya we dream of needs more Gen Zs like him," Ondimu said.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Ondimu acknowledged that the young man may be hesitant or afraid of why a police officer is looking for him but reassured him that the intention is purely to honour his selfless act.

He said he hopes to treat the man and his family to a meal and personally congratulate him for possibly saving the officer’s life.

“Something bad could have happened to the lady. I won’t rest until I find him. His actions truly touched me. I’d rather be harmed myself than watch a woman suffer that way. If anyone knows him, please tag or DM me,” Ondimu added.

The appeal has since gained traction online, with some Kenyans also expressing their desire to help the young man for his bravery and compassion.

"Who can identify the gentleman in green? He deserves lunch, and we can send him something... We can't be inhuman like this, and especially to a woman," said Vincent Opar.
