Albert Ojwang: Video of Blogger’s Dad Trying to Calm Protesters Who Carried Son’s Body Emerges

The body of slain blogger Albert Ojwang has been transported to his village in Homa Bay county, in preparation for his burial.

The family of Ojwang held a memorial mass at Ridgeway Baptist Church along Kiambu Road on Wednesday, July 2.
The family honoured the slain blogger who died while in police custody on June 8.
What happened to Ojwang's body?
Students from Mawego National Polytechnic received his body when it arrived at his village.
Mzee Meshack Opiyo, Ojwang's dad, was seen inside the hearse with his wife and grandson in one of the videos.
In another video, the students were seen carrying Ojwang's body and heading towards Mawego Police Station, where he was last seen alive before he was transferred to Nairobi.
The students sang anti-police chants while carrying the casket.
According to reports, the students took the body to the station as a way of protesting against how he died.
A video of Mzee Opiyo trying to calm the angry protestors has emerged. Ojwang's dad was atop a vehicle with a microphone.

He tried speaking to the protesters, who were hell-bent on accomplishing their mission.
The screams from the protestors overpowered his voice.
Homa Bay's county commissioner had earlier urged youths to maintain peace ahead of Ojwang's burial.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Doris Achieng asked Kenyans to let the family grieve.

"He was someone’s son, someone’s hope. Watching Mzee Meshack plead with protestors not to hurt his wife broke my heart. No parent deserves to lose a child this way. May Albert rest in peace, and may justice not be delayed," she said.

What did Ojwang's mum say during blogger's memorial?
During her son's memorial mass, Eucabeth shared a tearjerking tribute to him, leaving mourners in tears.
The grieving mother described her son as polite, generous, loving and caring, noting that he never fought anyone.
Eucabeth recalled the day her son was picked from their village just after she had served him lunch.
She painfully narrated how her son was whisked away, asking the police why they never inquired if she had other children.
She released her son, but urged him to taunt her killers in the moving tribute.
During the mass, Mzee Meshack also sent a stern message to his son's killers, comparing his death to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel.

He noted that blood that spills on the ground without a justifiable cause brings pain and suffering.
What to know about Albert Ojwang's death
- Ojwang's mother and his widow wailed uncontrollably during the teacher and blogger's memorial mass as they touched his casket.
- His widow, Nevnina, said that their son was unaware that his father had passed away and did not know how to break the news.
- Nevnina revealed that she and Ojwang met in 2021 and fell in love soon after.
Was Ojwang's family home completed?
In other news, Governor Gladys Wanga handed over the house she built for Ojwang's family.
Some marvelled at the bungalow on social media.
Wanga noted that it was Ojwang's dream to build a house for his parents, and it was fulfilled through her.
