The Magunas Supermarket is one of the key economic pillars in Meru county.
The destruction of the popular retail store is a blow to the Meru community and even the small businesses that relied on the supermarket for trade.
Magunas Supermarket being torched is one of many incidents as the country grapples with civil unrest.
A Kenyan sympathising with the owner of the retail store wrote:
“The only 24-hour supermarket in Meru with the most affordable prices. A supermarket started by blood, sweat and tears by a former hawker. What was the thought process involved here, Meru people?”

Kenyans sympathise with Magunas' owner
Here is what they had to say:
@Mutetimutegi:
"There must be something else beneath this. The supermarkets have been there all along, no one bothered to do this. We saw the govt of criminals hire their own kind to loot shops in Nairobi. They must have sent the criminals to other parts of the country to do the same."
Charity Wanjohi:
"Mostly wenye hufanya hivi huishi na mashida mingi sana."
Emmi Ene Kononkoi:
"Gen Z do you really think this will help? Can this madness stop now? Kama ni President hamtaki, just make sure you have an ID ndio you vote him out once and for all come 2027. This not necessary and it's not going to make things better for anyone. You are just hurting innocent Kenyans who are trying to make their lives better in this hard economy. May God intervene juu this has gone too far."
Dan Onyango:
"Insensitive...the demos are no longer peaceful, occupied with destruction and massacre...I can imagine the pain the owner is encountering."
Victoria Makungu:
"The looting and burning of supermarkets should be investigated well. It could be business rivalries taking advantage of the maandamanos.
Anthony Kiprop:
"This is just terrorism,we have monsters amongst us Kenyans, these culprits are disguised with innocent faces."

Why Kenyan celebrities are angry with police
In other news, a chilling video of police officers dragging a man on a dusty road into a station has sparked uproar on social media.
The three officers dragged the helpless man, believed to have been shot, as their colleagues watched.
The horrifying video went viral, with several Kenyans, including celebrities, calling out the police over the chilling video.
From Mulamwah to Kambua, the celebrities condemned police brutality, urging them to handle protesters humanely.
"Why shoot someone, then drag them on the ground? For what? To please who? Is it worth it? How do you sleep? Will you still use your salary to pay your children's fees? Such a cursed task force. RIP to all who lost their lives at the hands of the police. We still hope for a better nation," Mulamwah reacted.
How many people died during the Saba Saba Day?
In other news, several people lost their lives after police officers in several areas fired live ammunition.
There were confrontations between civilians and police officers, and some used tear gas to control the protests.
It was reported that two people were killed in Ngong while two others were killed in Kangemi.
Although the purpose of Saba Saba is to commemorate the valiant efforts of pro-democracy activists who opposed the one-party regime in 1990, it has evolved into a forum for Kenyans, especially the younger generation, to vent their long-standing annoyances over the country's economic hardships, widespread corruption, police brutality, and unmet constitutional promises.
