The case originates from allegations that Khatwani defrauded the company of approximately KSh 356 million (USD 2.8 million) over a period spanning from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2024.

It is alleged that, during this period, Khatwani, in his capacity as a director at OKI General Trading Limited, unlawfully acquired the funds belonging to the company by virtue of his employment.

The funds in question were allegedly obtained on multiple diverse dates within the specified timeframe at Baba Dogo, Nairobi county.

During today's court session, Khatwani's legal team voiced concern that the prosecution had yet to supply the necessary documentary evidence and materials they intended to rely on during the trial.

This prompted Alego to set a deadline for the prosecution to comply.

Khatwani was arrested on June 19 and subsequently released on a Ksh 5 million cash bail, with an alternative bond set at KSh 10 million.

The case is scheduled for mention on July 10, with eyes on the DPP to meet to produce the required evidence against Khatwani.

How Honey Khatwani 'stole' company's KSh 254m

In other news, a Nairobi businessman was charged at the Milimani Law Courts in February this year for allegedly embezzling millions through abuse of his position.

According to court documents, the accused, Cheekati Narasimha, is said to have conspired with others to misappropriate KSh 254.4 million belonging to Printing Services Limited between January 1, 2016, and August 31, 2024, while serving as an employee of the company.

At the time of this alleged theft, Narasimha was already facing forgery charges, for which he had been released on a bond of KSh 500,000 and a cash bail of KSh 200,000.

With the new accusations, the court revised his bail terms, setting a bond of KSh 10 million with a matching surety or an alternative cash bail of KSh 3 million.

He was also required to surrender his passport.

The prosecution claimed that in 2010, Narasimha falsified the signature of Malkiat Singh Dhillon, the managing director of the company, on a letter that promoted him to production manager.

This fabricated document was allegedly presented as genuine.

The defence lawyer requested additional time to meet the new bail conditions, citing Narasimha’s neck injury and inability to remain in custody.

However, the judge declined the request, stating the accused would remain detained until fulfilling the bail terms.
