Nakuru police come under attack
On Sunday, June 1, a violent ambush in Nakuru’s Free Area (Bondeni) left one police officer dead and two others seriously injured.
The three officers were on foot patrol when they were attacked by an armed gang wielding machetes and shields, followed by gunfire.
The injured officers were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and regular police led to the arrest of five suspects.
Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition believed to have been used in recent fatal shootings in the area, including the killing of four civilians and an MPesa vendor.
Ballistic tests are underway to confirm the weapon’s use in the crimes, and interrogations of the suspects are ongoing. A wider manhunt for additional gang members continues.
