Migori: Police Officer Fatally Stabbed Outside Bar While Going Home

Migori - A police officer attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has been fatally stabbed outside a bar in Muhuru Town, Nyatike South Sub-County.

The officer, identified as Gilbert Kibet, met his death just moments after leaving Genasa Bar and Restaurant, where he had reportedly stopped briefly before heading home.

According to a police incident report, Kibet was attacked by a civilian suspect identified only as 'Boy,' who allegedly stabbed him on the left side of the neck.

A report by Citizen Digital revealed that Kibet, who was off duty at the time, was making his way home around midnight when the tragic incident occurred.

Witnesses said the attack appeared sudden, catching the officer off guard. He collapsed moments later, bleeding profusely from the neck wound.

Efforts to rush him to the hospital were in vain as he succumbed to his injuries en route, before medical personnel could attend to him.

Why was Migori police officer attacked?

Nyatike South Deputy County Commissioner Festus Kimeu confirmed the incident, stating that initial investigations were underway.

Kimeu explained that they were yet to know the motive behind the heinous killing of the police officer.

"The motive behind the killing is yet to be established, and investigations are underway," said Kimeu.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently on the run.

Police have since launched a manhunt, appealing to members of the public with any information about the assailant’s whereabouts to come forward.

Kibet’s body was taken to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to be conducted to help piece together his final moments.

Nakuru police come under attack

On Sunday, June 1, a violent ambush in Nakuru’s Free Area (Bondeni) left one police officer dead and two others seriously injured.

The three officers were on foot patrol when they were attacked by an armed gang wielding machetes and shields, followed by gunfire.

The injured officers were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and regular police led to the arrest of five suspects.
