"It first hit two vehicles, a matatu and a Toyota Premio, that were parked by the roadside. The impact was so strong it lifted the lorry into the air and sent it crashing onto kiosks just across the ditch,” said Borabu Sub-County Traffic Police Commander Wycliffe Kundu as reported by Nation.

Kundu confirmed that six people were killed instantly, while 10 others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals across Nyamira and Bomet counties.

Of the injured, three were said to be in critical condition and were transferred to Kaplong Mission Hospital and Nyamira County Referral Hospital for specialised treatment.

The force of the impact left a trail of mangled vehicles, flattened stalls, and scattered debris on the busy highway.

Authorities and locals alike said the stretch had long been a death trap, with frequent accidents occurring under similar circumstances.

"The area is a black spot and all road users have to exercise extra caution when they have reached there, especially during harsh rainy weather like now," Kundu emphasised.
