A man accused of posing as a police officer and participating in a daring robbery of KSh 999,000 will remain in custody for an additional week, following a court decision at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, July 15.

The group is said to have followed Patel Kashyakumar Khantibhai after he withdrew cash from I&M Bank along Parklands Avenue on June 28, before ambushing him on the same road at around 1:00 pm.
According to the charge sheet seen by TUKO.co.ke, the suspects blocked Patel’s car using a silver Toyota Axio.
Two men then approached his vehicle one wearing a police uniform complete with a luminous green reflective jacket and a peaked cap, and the other in civilian clothing.
How did Ezekiel Mutuku steal Ksh 999,000?
The pair, claiming to be conducting a search, forced Patel to open his car. One suspect showed what appeared to be a pistol and struck the victim on the shoulder before grabbing the brown envelope containing the cash.
"They forced him to open the door, searched the motor vehicle, and in the process, he was showed something believed to be a pistol. He was hit on his shoulder and they made away with the whole amount which was wrapped in a brown envelope," the charge sheet read in part.
The robbers then sped off toward Limuru Road. Patel reported the incident at Parklands Police Station the same day, prompting an investigation.
CCTV footage retrieved from the bank showed the suspects tracking the complainant’s movements, confirming they had tailed him in the Toyota Axio.
How was the suspect arrested?
The vehicle was later traced to Eldoret, where officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted it with five suspects on board. Four fled, but Mutuku was arrested.
A search of the vehicle revealed key exhibits, two sets of number plates, a police-style reflective jacket, a white police cap, two mobile phones, four ATM cards, and a national ID.
Police believe the plates were fake and that the car had been used in multiple robberies around Parklands and greater Nairobi.
Mutuku was first arraigned on July 4 under a miscellaneous application, where the court ordered that he be held for ten days at Parklands Police Station to allow further investigations.
During the most recent hearing, his lawyer requested cash bail, which was strongly opposed by the prosecution. The investigating officer filed an affidavit citing concerns that Mutuku is a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses or ongoing inquiries.
Mutuku is expected to return to court on July 22, as investigations continue into the full extent of the robbery network he is believed to be part of.
