Kakamega: MP Concerned Over High Number of Married Men Moving to City, Leaving Wives in Village

• A Member of Parliament in Kakamega is concerned over the high number of young married men abandoning their wives in the village
• The legislator noted that while the young men move to the city in search of jobs, their decision to leave behind their wives has led to other problems

Kakamega: Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has expressed concerns over an emerging trend in which young married people from his constituency are relocating to the city, leaving their wives behind in the village.

The MP noted that the move has led to the collapse of marriages and increased infidelity.

Speaking in Khukolomani location during the launch of a water project in the area on Wednesday, July 16, Aseka called on the young couples to live together despite the current financial challenges.

Dangers of young couple not living together

He noted that leaving behind a young wife could trigger problems within the family. The legislator further pointed out that some women had been forced into illicit affairs with their fathers-in-law due to the absence of their husbands for a long time.

"I have seen some of the young men from this constituency leaving their wives and going to the city to look for money. That is wrong because these people (wives) need to have men close to them. Leaving them alone in the village will surely cause many problems,” the MP said.

According to the MP, if a man must be away from his wife, he should be able to visit her frequently.

He advised married young men from his constituency who are working and have left their wives in the village to visit them at least once per month.

“If it is possible, please accompany your wife to the city. This will save so many problems that might arise if you left her behind. But if the situation cannot allow it, don’t stay away for too long. Visit her once or twice a month,” Aseka noted.

However, he asked family members, especially fathers, to respect their daughters-in-law left behind by their husbands.

Sexual abuses of boys in Khwisero

Meanwhile, the legislator raised an alarm over increased sexual abuse in the constituency involving school-going children.

He said one case had been brought to his attention, and appropriate action has since been taken.

"I have received some information about the abuse of male learners in the area. I am told we have one male teacher who is involved, and I have asked the security team to ensure he is arrested and prosecuted. I will not sit and watch as someone destroys our young generation,” the MP said.

Dangers of African men relocating with their wives abroad

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a marriage therapist had warned African men against moving abroad with their wives.

According to Shamseddin Giwa, the system abroad will always be 'rigged' against men.

He, however, offered advice on the best way to ensure an African couple succeeds in harmoniously living together after moving abroad.
