  • That, however, did not happen, as they accused their headteacher of match fixing and then went to his home to protest what happened

Football, which is one of the beloved extracurricular activities in many schools across Kenya, is obviously popular in Mayenje Primary School as well, and they have invested a lot of time and money in it.

In a heated video shared on TikTok, one of the pupils alleged that they were playing so well against another team, but then their headteacher scuttled their expected good results.

Why were the Mayenje Primary School pupils angry?

"He didn't want us to play football, so when we were winning, he sabotaged the match because he wanted us to go study," said the lad.
"We didn't want to study, we wanted the game to continue or get our KSh 10,000," he added.

How did the Mayenje Primary School students protest?

Waving twigs in the air, the young boys and girls took to the streets, chanting at the top of their lungs.

They wanted an audience with the older man, who was nowhere to be seen on the field.

At the time of the interview, no other teacher was there, just students airing out their grievances. The headteacher lives in a rental house, and the children were not shy about pouring into the gate in numbers to make their grievances known.

Sadly, they didn't find their headteacher at home; he seems to have vanished into thin air, and some children speculated that he may have locked himself in the house.

Eventually, the kids started calling each other to go back home with no concrete solution to the problem at hand: uncertainty about their advancement in the football game.

Most netizens were stunned by the brave and confident children who were not ready to back down in the face of an alleged problem and confronted it head-on, while others called out the young ones for going to the home of their headteacher.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, counsellor Dann Mathews Were said he was stunned by the incident because during their days the home of the principal was accessible to only a few people.

"What concerned me, however, is why maandamano was the first go-to solution after the incident. There seems to be a lack of communication between the principal and his students and may affected how they see him in other ways," said Were.

Goalkeeper caught in match fixing scandal

Another story revealed that match-fixing has long been a problem in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, and a goalkeeper was guilty of it.

A recent case involved goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade, who was in the spotlight for the wrong reasons after being linked to match-fixing.

This comes in the wake of former Tusker goalkeeper Patrick Matasi also being named in a similar case.
