Barasa, who is serving his first term, asked his competitors, most of whom are holding elective positions, to focus on retaining their seats or else they will face a humiliating defeat should they stick to the plan of vying against him.

According to the county boss, none of those eying his seat have the political muscle to defeat him.

Which politicians are eyeing the Kakamega governor's seat?

Among those eying the Kakamega governor seat are County Woman Member of Parliament Elsie Muhanda, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka and his Ikolomani counterpart Bernard Shinali.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and former senator Cleophas Malala are also believed to be in the race to unseat Barasa.

"Those MPs who are here, led by Elsie Muhanda, Christopher Aseka, and Bernard Shinali, I want to tell you that I will beat you in the coming election. It is better you surrender now or wait until 2027 to go home," the governor said.

He asked the elected leaders to focus on service delivery instead of engaging in early campaigns against him, which he noted might derail efforts to deliver their mandate.

According to Barasa, since he assumed leadership as the second governor of Kakamega, he has maintained the standards left by his predecessor, Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya.

"I have a good development record, which will make my re-election smooth. The projects that were initiated by Oparanya are now all complete, and the people of Kakamega are enjoying their benefits. My track record is clear, and anyone who tries to vie against me will see dust," the county boss warned.

He also asked Kakamega locals to continue supporting President William Ruto and his broad-based government.

How Kakamega has benefited from supporting Ruto

The governor noted that with Oparanya now part of the government, the county stands to benefit from various development projects. He named ongoing works on the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital as the fruits of being in government.

"I support the broad-based government because it gave us Oparanya as the CS for Cooperatives and SMEs. The president has also allowed KDF to complete the construction of Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital," Barasa added.
