Led by community figures and the Alfayo Nelson Hope Foundation, the young people stressed the urgency of addressing their concerns and pushing for meaningful youth engagement to elevate their voices and improve livelihoods.
"As their leader, I will make sure our community goes in the right direction, so that when it comes time to make the right decision, they will do so with hope for the future," said Nelson Alfayo, one of the youth leaders in the area.
How Nyali youth want their challenges addressed
Besides supporting addiction-rehabilitation efforts, the youths demanded strict action against drug suppliers, arguing that both users and dealers must be targeted to root out the menace.
They said the government must up its game and ensure all those involved in the supply of illegal substances are arrested and prosecuted.
"We don't want drugs in our midst. For those who want to use our youth for drugs, Nyali should not be a market; it should be a place where youth get involved in meaningful development. We call agencies to arrest all dealers,” said the Alfayo Nelson Hope Foundation director.
He further warned that injecting partisan politics into development initiatives undermines real progress.
According to Alfayo, it’s time Kenyans had a different view of leadership from the local to the national level.
"Leadership will not be political any more. We want to tell our people that through leadership, we will impact change in Nyali,” he said.

He also called on young people to join hands and ensure their next elected leaders are committed to addressing their pressing needs.
