The woman, seemingly in her late 20s, was dressed in a striking blue dress with long yellow sleeves but was barefoot.
A viral video captured her already on top of a Forward Travellers matatu, which plies several routes within Nairobi.
Why was Nairobi woman on top of matatu?
She stood precariously near the back edge of the vehicle, at one point seeming like she might jump off, but then retreated, knelt, and began to pray while still on the roof.
She bent forward, spat downwards, then got back on her feet and continued walking across the matatu roof.
The unusual scene drew gasps from bystanders, with many speculating she may have been involved in witchcraft.
"This is not normal, her eyes are so red. She’s praying," voices in the background of the video can be heard saying.
According to Vanessa Wambui, who shared the clip, the woman looked clean and well-groomed—raising more questions about her behaviour.
Wambui noted that after finishing her strange prayer session, the woman calmly got off the vehicle without speaking to anyone and walked away.
“She got off and walked barefoot. She left her blazer, earring, and necklace on the ground, spat on them three times, then walked away,” she said.

What bizarre act was the Githurai househelp caught doing?
In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a man arrived at his home in Githurai looking forward to bonding with his five-month-old baby.
Edward Waruguru noticed that the baby's fingers appeared to be bleeding and asked his wife to speak with the nanny. The nanny claimed she had accidentally hurt the child while cutting her nails.
Suspicious about the incident, Edward installed a nanny cam, only to discover that the househelp was smothering the baby with a napkin to muffle her cries.
