Patrick Osoi team's statement on Kimathi's arrest

However, Osoi's team had issued a different update stating that Kimathi had allegedly surrendered himself to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.

"To ease the uncertainty, the last member of F.B.I(Fighting Brutality and Impunity), @kimathihiram, has surrendered himself to the DCI HQ along Kiambu Rd," the statement read in part.

They further claimed that Kimathi was accompanied by his lawyers, family and friends.

The communication team further alleged that the FBI members will not stop fighting against police brutality and impunity.

"I hope we put this to rest, but it doesn't mean we will stop fighting against brutality & impunity.

How did Hiram Kimathi end up in custody?

Following the conflicting reports, TUKO.co.ke reached out to Osoi's personal assistant, Washali Edwin, for him to give their side of the story.

In an exclusive interview, Washali claimed that Kimathi surrendered himself to the police after getting intelligence that the DCI was looking for him too.

He stated that they allegedly shared Kimathi's live location with the DCI before alerting the media personnel in the area.

"We intentionally shared our location with the DCI...Everything we did was by design. That's why you saw videos circulating of his arrest," Washali said.

When asked about the location provided, Washali claimed they informed the DCI of his Meru location, but the DCI allegedly went against their agreement by taking him to the DCI headquarters instead of the Meru police station.

"We agreed that he would be booked in a Meru police station, but they bypassed that and drove to DCI HQ for interrogation and later booked at Ruaraka Police Station," Washali finalised.

Will ex-police officers be under close surveillance?

This comes days after Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen affirmed the government's commitment to fighting what he termed the cropping up of militia groups.

The CS stated that the government would ensure that ex police and military officers are closely monitored to prevent them from using the knowledge they acquired during training to fight against the government.

He further lauded the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for arresting and charging the ex-officers under the FBI group.
