Speaking on Tuesday, August 5, during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of the KSh 248 million Kanduyi modern market and bus park project, Lusaka revealed that although he is not yet involved in succession politics, he intends to give clear direction when the time is right.

“Many aspirants are eyeing the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, but for now, it’s time to deliver on our mandate and serve the people,” the governor said.

“When the right time comes, I will give direction on who I believe is the right person to lead Bungoma county after me,” he added.

Lusaka, who is serving his second term as a governor, emphasised that leadership should not be left to chance and advised residents to critically analyse all candidates based on a clear framework.

“I urge the people of Bungoma to conduct a SWOT analysis: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats on every aspirant before making a decision. Choose someone who has the capacity and a clear vision to transform this county,” he advised.

Who are top candidates for Bungoma governor’s seat?

So far, several political heavyweights have shown interest in the county’s top seat, including Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi, Kimilili’s Didmus Barasa, renowned auctioneer Zacharia Barasa and contractor Allan Fwamba.

Each of the politicians has already hit the ground running as they strategise to take over from Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Lusaka expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the construction of the Kanduyi modern market.

He commended the contractor for adhering to set timelines and maintaining high standards.

When will Kanduyi modern market be completed?

“I’m impressed with the quality of work so far. By October, our traders will finally have a clean, safe and organised space to operate from. This project will redefine the trading environment in Kanduyi,” the governor said.

According to Lusaka, the facility will not only boost the local economy but also provide dignified trading spaces for small-scale traders.

The ultra-modern market features 220 stalls, a spacious bus park, dedicated tuk-tuk and matatu stages, passenger shades, modern public toilets and several other amenities aimed at improving the overall market experience.

Governor Lusaka also reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, announcing that stall allocation will prioritise existing traders, with a special focus on women, youth and persons living with disabilities.
