What was Natembeya's first job?

Speaking at the Berur area within Kinyoro ward in Saboti constituency during the official opening of the Berur dispensary, Natembeya said that after graduating from the University of Nairobi, he ventured into business, selling shoes at Gikomba Market.

"When I was employed as a DO, I was earning a meagre KSh 8,000 per month, which I used to make within three days as a businessman in the Gikomba Market,” the governor said.

However, Natembeya was able to rise through the ranks and by the time he resigned in 2022 to join politics, he was a Rift Valley regional commissioner.

He had also served as the district commissioner (DC), county commissioner and regional commissioner in the new system of governance.

He shared his regrets of accepting a government job while encouraging the youth to always give a chance to self-employment instead of focusing on getting a government job.

The county boss also told off critics who have been accusing him of failing to help young people in the county secure jobs.

“While some of you claim that I have not employed them, how many people from this area have been employed by President William Ruto?" he asked.

Can CBC address unemployment in Kenya?

Meanwhile, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) deputy party leader called for the government to institute further reforms in the current education system.

He claimed that the Competency-Based Education (CBE), which is being implemented, cannot address the issue of unemployment among the youth that the country is facing.

According to Natembeya, the government should come up with a curriculum that focuses on skills development instead of certificates.

He also dismissed claims that the state had finally fixed challenges in the new Social Health Authority (SHA).

"As far as I know, SHA does not work. Currently, SHA has yet to pay us up to KSh 77 million, and NHIF disappeared with our KSh 102 million," he claimed.

Has Natembeya moved to Kenya Kwanza?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Natembeya had dismissed claims that he was planning to switch camps.

The vocal governor is now allied to the opposition, but it was alleged that the government was courting him after he met Interior Cabinet Secretary Kichumba Murkomen.

He said the meeting had no political agenda on the table.
