Kakamega: A family in Emalindi has been thrown into mourning after their 70-year-old kin was killed by his son.

The elderly man and his son were reportedly involved in an altercation over Sukuma Wiki before things got out of hand.

It all started when Milton Abednego's 39-year-old son plucked a bunch of the vegetables from his father's land.

Did Milton's son hack him with panga?

Furious Milton approached his son and questioned him. However, things escalated to the point where the son hit his father with a panga on the head.

"Sasa vita zilianzia tu kwa sukuma. The son wanted free things. He didn't want to work and went to pluck his father's sukuma. That is when the father got angry as that the son had plucked on the previous day and did it again today," one relative said.

According to a relative, the panga that was used by the son to commit the heinous act belonged to Milton.

After committing the crime, Milton's son fled the scene but was eventually tracked down by an angry mob.

Moments later, news spread that Milton's son had also passed away. The police who arrived at the scene transported the bodies of the deceased to the nearby morgue pending autopsies.

The residents condemned the acts of murder that happened on that fateful day. They stated that Milton was a peace-loving man who mostly worked on his farm.

One resident stated that it was not the first time Milton was involved in an altercation with his son. The last time it happened, Milton reported the matter to the police.

"He had previously asked the government to help him to no avail. There was a time his children had become a nuisance, so he took them all to police custody. People pleaded with the man to help his children get released. When they were released, they never really got in good terms with their father," the resident said.

In a previous incident, a middle-aged man reportedly killed his father-in-law and injured his wife using a machete.

The suspect began attacking his estranged wife when the father tried to intervene. This is when the man began assaulting the father, leading to his death.

After committing the act, the man fled the scene before eventually surrendering himself to the police at the Sultan Hamud Police Station.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Sultan Hamud Hospital, while the wife was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
