A single mum was overwhelmed with emotions while recounting how the ill-fated plane that crashed in the Mwihoko area claimed the life of her daughter.

The plane that belonged to the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) crashed on Thursday, August 7, leading to the death of six people.

Casualties of the gruesome incident included two doctors, two nurses and two people who were inside the residential building that the chopper crashed into.

Mercy Nafula, a resident of Mwihoko, struggled to put on a brave face when speaking about her late daughter.

How did Mercy Nafula's daughter die?

In an interview with Citizen TV, Mercy stated that her daughter, Yvonne Nasimiyu, was in their rented home making lunch when tragedy came knocking.

Mercy stated that she had gone to work when the chopper crash claimed her young daughter's life.

"My child left home to go to the salon. There were three children accompanied by my sister. When they started plaiting the hair of my eldest child, I told my younger daughter to go home and prepare lunch. While she was making the meal, that is when the incident happened," Mercy explained.

Speaking amid tears, Mercy narrated the challenges she has gone through trying to raise her daughter as a single mother.

"I have struggled to raise her on my own. I am currently surprised, I don't even know where to start. I don't know what to do," she added.

Mercy Nafula appeals for help

Sending an appeal to the government, Mercy stated that she lost everything in the incident, including he children's important documents like birth certificates.

She recounted the trauma she would have been in if all her children were in the house when the tragic incident occurred.

"I want to thank God because I am left with my other children. If they all came to make that lunch, then I would be left on my own. I don't know God's plan, but I still have my other kids. I would also like to ask you to help me bury my child," Mercy painfully said.
