According to reports, the bus was struck from behind by a flatbed trailer in a collision that also involved a fuel tanker on Monday, August 11.
The bus was en route to Kisumu town when the accident occurred.

An eyewitness told TUKO.co.ke that two people have been confirmed dead so far, with several others injured.
"The bus was heading to town from Maseno. There were three vehicles; one had left earlier. The trailer was overtaking and accidentally hit the bus from the rear," the eyewitness said.
"Two trailers were following one another, one carrying petrol and the other carrying steel. One was overtaking at a corner. The Royal Liner driver was trying to avoid a head-on collision with the petrol tanker. So, the vehicle that was being overtaken collided with the bus. Many people were seriously injured, including a woman, her husband, and their children, but the woman is said to have died," another person at the scene explained.
Images and videos obtained by TUKO.co.ke show severe damage to the driver's side of the bus, which was scraped off in the collision.

First responders, including police officers, were at the scene assisting with rescue efforts and managing the crowd. Several bystanders also gathered around the site of the accident.
Meanwhile, the crash occurred amid a series of recent incidents that have claimed over 50 lives, raising growing concerns among Kenyans.

In another tragic incident, an Ena coach bus was involved in an accident in the Mai Mahiu area while descending the escarpment near a historical Catholic church.
A truck lost its brakes and collided with two vehicles before hitting the bus from behind, causing it to overturn.
Two passengers, including a female adult and a minor, lost their lives, while several others were injured. Rescue teams and well-wishers responded swiftly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent care.
Family loses 13 relatives in Kisumu accident
The incident came barely two days after an AIC Naki High School bus transporting mourners from Nyahera, Kisumu, was involved in an accident that claimed 26 lives at the Coptic Roundabout.
A woman, Florence Akoth, said 13 of the deceased were her close relatives, and another 26 were admitted at the hospital.
The Kisumu governor, Anyang Nyong'o, urged the Ministry of Transport to consider redesigning the structure of the road that had become a black spot for so many years.
