This, he said, was due to unmet expectations and unexpected consequences.

Speaking during a Bunge la Wananchi gathering, the man recalled being part of a group invited to State House for what was described as an empowerment programme.

He said the only requirement for entry was a national identification card, and upon arrival they were treated to a generous meal.

“We went to State House, and I can admit we ate really well. After the meal we had bottles of soda to wash it down,” he told the crowd.

Did Ruto distribute motorbikes during empowerment event?

However, he revealed that the goodwill he expected quickly turned to disappointment.

According to him, the programme featured the distribution of various items, including motorcycles, water tanks, plastic chairs and car wash machines.

He said he was given a motorcycle and the key to pose with for photographs, but never actually received the bike.

“After taking the photos, we were told to go to the gate and the motorbikes would be brought. But once outside, the General Service Unit officers stationed there ordered us to go home,” he claimed.

The man added that the photographs taken alongside President William Ruto had become a source of trouble.

Friends and acquaintances now believe he received a significant payout or expensive gifts, and some had even demanded money from him.

“I am receiving a lot of calls from people asking why I did not invite them. Some are asking me to send them one thousand shillings. They think I have money now,” he lamented.

He said he initially believed meeting and greeting the president would change his life for the better, but instead it brought confusion, social pressure, and regret.

Are the empowerment funds proceeds of corruption?

In a related development, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua questioned the source of the millions being disbursed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki through empowerment programmes.

Gachagua expressed doubts over how Kindiki could afford to give out such large sums given his official salary.

Gachagua pointed out that Kindiki has been in office for less than a year but has allegedly donated over KSh 300 million, far exceeding what his salary would allow.

He warned Kenyans to be cautious about these empowerment initiatives, suggesting they might have a hidden agenda linked to corruption and embezzlement of funds.
