Who is behind the Migori assistant chief's death?
The DCC linked the murder incident to an ongoing fight against stock theft in the area. He said the killed assistant chief has been instrumental in the gains made against criminals who have been stealing livestock from locals.
“We suspect this unfortunate murder is linked to anti-stock theft since the deceased was very instrumental and supportive in dealing with stock theft on the border. With his help, we have managed to control the stock theft, and this did not go well with the criminals who finished him,” Ajwang’ said.
The assistant chief had received threats to his life and reported the matter to the police.

However, according to the area DCC, there was no action taken by the police to look into the threats that the assistant chief had received.
“We have been pushing for his safety, but there was reluctance in acting on his case until now that the complainant is dead. To date, we have not received any progress on the case he filed,” he said.
