How UDP plans to enhance its popularity in Kakamega
The party’s Kakamega branch acting chairperson, Godfrey Minodi, on Sunday, August 17, admitted that while they have been dormant for some time now, they have resolved to work on ensuring more members register.
Minodi further asked locals in Kakamega to support the UDP instead of being coerced into joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), political vehicles he said should not be considered.
“This is a party for the Kakamega people, and we are planning to bring in more members from other counties in the larger western region,” he said.
Speaking in Mautuma ward after a consultation meeting with some members, the UDP acting chairman also revealed that the party is seeking to recruit at least 8,000 members from every ward in Kakamega.
He said the party has already put in place structures to ensure it has representation from the national to the ward level.
"Together with other officials, we have agreed to recruit at least 8,000 members in every ward. This is part of our efforts to ensure UDP regains its image,” Minodi said.
Other officials who attended the event expressed the need for all members to be involved in popularising the party within and outside Kakamega county.

They also challenged their party leader, Cyrus Jirongo, to take the lead in selling the party’s agenda to Kenyans as part of the preparations for the 2027 General Election.
“Our party leader should come out without fear and be at the forefront as we popularise the party. We want to see him every time,” said Illam Soita, one of the party officials.
“As an official party member, I will make sure everyone in my village has registered as a member. We are not going to sleep until the party has more members and support as we prepare for the 2027 General Election, another official said.

Is ODM supporting UDA in Malava by-elections?
Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a section of Kakamega MPs has asked Malava locals to support a pro-government candidate in the upcoming by-election.
The MPs led by Khwisero's Christopher Aseka said the constituency will be in a safe place if it elects an individual who supports the broad-based government.
So far, ODM remains silent on whether it will field a candidate in the by-election, while UDA has already set a date for its nomination.
