Kisumu: A family in Onono village, Kadibo sub-county, is in mourning following the alleged murder of their 80-year-old relative on Monday evening, August 18.

The victim, Mzee Barack Ochuka, was said to have engaged in a confrontation with his two stepbrothers, Lawrence Onyuka, 38, and Tobias Onyuka, 35, over a land dispute.

How was Barack Ochuka killed?

During the altercation, the suspects allegedly attacked him with crude weapons, inflicting deep wounds on his head, back, and arms. He later succumbed to the injuries.

According to Citizen Digital, police reported that the suspects also assaulted the deceased’s son, Calvin Ochieng, who had rushed in to try and save his father.

Ochieng was stabbed in the chest and rushed to Nyang’ande Sub-County Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Enraged residents pursued the suspects and managed to catch Tobias, whom they beat up, leaving him with serious head injuries. Lawrence, however, escaped and sought refuge at Rabuor Police Station.

Both brothers were later arrested and taken to Ahero Sub-County Hospital under police guard. Authorities confirmed they will face charges once they are discharged.

Meanwhile, police have urged residents to remain calm as investigations into the incident continue.

Elsewhere, former Siaya County Assembly clerk Felix Olwero was shot dead by the police in what they later described as mistaken identity.

Olwero had rushed to his White House Resort in Seme, Kisumu, to respond to a suspected burglary when officers, alerted by the manager after hearing commotion, arrived at the scene.

Police said they fired in the air to scare off intruders, but Olwero allegedly charged at them, prompting officers to retaliate.

Unaware that he was the resort’s owner, the officers fatally shot him while the other suspects fled to the nearby thickets.

The management revealed that the area had recorded five break-in attempts before the incident that tragically claimed Olwero’s life.

Why was Siaya man killed?

In other news, Gem Yala Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula confirmed that officers arrested a suspected serial killer, Charles Ochieng, in Kibos and took him to the station after he provided crucial leads regarding the murder of women in the region.

On their way to the crime scene, residents who had learned of the arrest blocked the road and confronted officers. The crowd overpowered the police, forcefully pulling the suspect away.

He was lynched in an act of mob justice before the officers could intervene. The mob further attempted to set the police vehicle on fire during the chaos.
