According to the DCI, the suspect, identified as Abraham Kimeli, allegedly masqueraded as Koskei's PA in a bid to dupe an unsuspecting job seeker.

Did Kimeli defraud woman of KSh 130k?

The DCI stated that Kimeli, who used the name "City Tycoon" on TikTok, reportedly defrauded a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon out of KSh 130,000 by promising to help her secure a government job upon her return to the country.

"In February 2024, a woman working in Lebanon connected with a follower on TikTok who went by the name “City Tycoon.” Seeking a way not to return to Lebanon when her contract is over, she asked the alleged “city tycoon” for help in securing a permanent job back in Kenya. What followed was a web of deception that would ensnare any unsuspecting victim," the DCI statement read in part.

Did Kimeli pose as govt official?

Kimeli reportedly provided the victim with his phone number and guised himself as a key player in government affairs.

In an effort to convince the woman that he could secure her a job, Kimeli shared a document with her, purportedly from the Public Service Commission.

This is when, according to the DCI, Kimeli began asking the woman for facilitation fees. Eager to secure the job, the woman sought her employer's help in sending money through Western Union.

"Unfortunately, she was left reeling when she found herself scammed out of Ksh. 130,000, with a promised job that evaporated into thin air," the DCI statement further stated.

The investigative unit, however, managed to arrest Kimeli following a diligent forensic investigation.

"He is now in custody, undergoing processing, awaiting the legal repercussions for his fraudulent actions," it added.

Student arrested for impersonating Sonko

Kimeli's case is not the first of its kind. Previously, a student identified as Tyson Kibet, a Kabete Polytechnic student, was arrested after he was found running a fake Facebook account under the former Nairobi governor's name, Mike Sonko.

The 23-year-old student used the name to dupe unsuspecting Kenyans of their hard-earned money.

Under the fake identity of Sonko, Kibet transformed the fake page into a dating platform that showcased photos of women.

He then solicited money from interested men to facilitate connections with the beautiful women.

The DCI began trailing him and finally arrested him. He was charged with cyber-squatting as per Section 28 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018, for impersonating the esteemed politician and tarnishing his reputation without consent.
