Meru Blogger Sniper Laid to Rest Nearly 2 years after Gruesome Murder

Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani, widely known as Sniper, was laid to rest on Friday, August 22, nearly two years after his brutal murder.

His death ignited a lot of political battles in Meru, with political bigwigs in the county being linked to his gruesome murder.
The family of the deceased stated that they settled on the burial date after consulting widely on the matter.
Meru governor Isaac Mutuma, former Agriculture Cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi were among those who graced the emotional event.
The burial service was held at the Kabuitu Primary School.
The burial comes months after the organisers indefinitely postponed the burial, which was previously scheduled for December last year, following a land dispute.
The postponement was not taken lightly by Meru residents, who called on the family to resolve the matter urgently.
Sniper's wife pays emotional tribute to him
The late blogger's wife, Irene Kawira, painfully recounted the last moment she saw him alive.
Kawira stated that her beloved received a phone call from someone he knew, telling him to schedule a meeting with one of the prominent leaders in Meru.
She stated that Sniper left home after receiving that call, never to return.

Those who attended the burial ceremony showered the deceased with praises, terming him a true son of the soil.

Has Sniper's murder case been solved?
The murder case of Sniper remains unsolved, with mystery still surrounding it.
The trial was postponed to October, with hearings scheduled for three days on the 13th, 16th, and 30th.
Sniper went missing on December 2, 2023, before his body was found weeks later on December 17, 2023.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecution had filed murder charges against two people who were linked to the blogger's brutal death.
One of those implicated in the case included Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, also known by the alias Tali.
Guantai, a law enforcement official, is the brother of former Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.
What happened to Sniper?
The renowned blogger was found dead nearly three weeks after he went missing, causing so much pain to his family members.
A post-mortem carried out on the deceased's body showed that he had died due to neck compression.
Addressing the media in December 2023, at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital, the government pathologist Johansen Oduor stated that Sniper had visible neck injuries.
Additionally, he stated that his body showed signs it was deprived of Oxygen.
