Weatherman Warns of Continued Rains, Chilly Conditions in Several Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of ongoing rainfall in parts of the country.

The rainy and chilly weather conditions are set to be experienced from Saturday, August 23, to Wednesday, August 27.

According to a statement issued by the department, strong southerly to South-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25knots (12.86m/s) are expected over the coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

"Rainfall is expected in a few parts of the country especially in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya. Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley," the Kenya Met statement read in part.

Which counties are expected to experience rainfall?

Highlands of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley

The counties that are expected to experience rainfall in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

In these counties, rain will be experienced during morning hours, showers and thunderstorms over several places in the afternoon and showers over a few places in the evening.

The maximum temperatures to be experienced will be 27°C.

Highlands East of the Rift Valley region

The counties that would be expected to experience such weather include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties.

In the morning, the weather is expected to be cloudy, breaking into sunny intervals, with showers to be experienced in a few places in the afternoon and nighttime.

The maximum temperatures will range from 24°C to 26°C, while the lowest temperatures will range from 07°C to 11°C.

Coast

The counties that are expected to experience heavy rainfall include Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River.

Showers will be experienced in various places in the morning and in the afternoon. In the evening the weather will be partly cloudy in some areas.

Maximum temperatures will vary from 29°C to 30°C with the minimum temperatures ranging from 20°C to 22°C

North Western Kenya

The counties to be affected include Samburu, Turkana.

Morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers. Thunderstorms are also likely to be experienced in a few places.
