Former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel has died a week after being involved in a tragic road accident in the Exciting area in Rongai.

Lempurkel sustained serious injuries during the crash and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he remained under close medical care.
Despite efforts by doctors to stabilise his condition, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, August 24.

When did Mathew Lempurkel serve as MP?
Lempurkel, who served as Laikipia North MP between 2013 and 2017, was widely known for his vocal advocacy for the rights of the Maa community.

How did Rigathi Gachagua mourn Mathew Lempurkel?
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Lempurkel, a member of the DCP Party.
“I have learned of the untimely passing of Hon. Mathew Lempurkel with a heavy heart,” Gachagua said. “May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may Almighty God grant strength, comfort, and fortitude to his family, loved ones, and all who cherished him during this moment of grief. My deepest sympathies to you all.”
Gachagua added that while Lempurkel has departed, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him and benefited from his service.

Former Garissa North MP dies
Meanwhile, the incident happened just days after another former Garissa North MP, Abdikadir Yusuf, died while returning to the country from Australia.
Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman joined Kenyans in mourning him.
Osman expressed deep sorrow over Yusuf’s passing and extended his condolences to the family, friends, and all who were close to the late lawmaker. He prayed for strength and comfort for those grieving during this difficult time.
