Kasipul parliamentary hopeful Boyd Were has penned a heartfelt message to his late father, former MP Ong’ondo Were, on what would have been his birthday.

Ong’ondo was brutally gunned down near the City Mortuary roundabout in Nairobi, a shocking assassination that sparked widespread fear and outrage across the country.

“Happy Birthday, dad. Today, I celebrate the life of a great man, my father, my mentor, and a true servant of the people,” Boyd said in an emotional tribute.

He praised the late legislator for his wisdom, humility, and dedication to the people of Kasipul, adding that his father’s legacy lives on through the community projects he initiated and the lives he impacted.

Boyd pledged to carry forward his late father’s vision for Kasipul, assuring residents that his leadership would build on the foundation laid before him.

“As your son, I carry your name with pride and your teachings with deep respect. I will walk the path you walked, with the same passion and dedication you showed,” he vowed.
“Your dream for Kasipul did not die with you — it lives on, and I will do my part to fulfil it. Thank you for being the father and leader that you were. I miss you every day, but I find comfort in knowing that you’re still guiding me from above. May you rest in eternal peace, and may your memory always be a blessing,” he added.

With a strong background in accounting, Boyd believes he is well-suited to represent Kasipul in Parliament.

His candidacy has gained traction after some ODM MPs proposed that he be endorsed, arguing that the leadership should remain in line with his father’s legacy.
