Kirinyaga Chief Nearly Weeps in Front of Murkomen over Police Frustrations: "My Son Is Suffering"

A Senior Chief from Kirinyaga county left Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in shock on Sunday, August 25, during a Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Kerugoya after weeping while recounting his fight to obtain justice for his son.

The chief, Dickson Kathuri Mugo, revealed that his son had undergone sexual assault five years ago.
Despite repeated attempts to pursue the case through local police stations in Kianyaga and Kiamutugu, he said he was repeatedly blocked, claiming the suspect was being protected by police.

“I have even taken the matter to the Kirinyaga Police Commander in Kerugoya, but all in vain. I am a government officer like them, yet they have refused to help me. I am the one who helps people every day, so who will help me now?” he lamented.

The chief also accused the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from Gichugu of neglecting the case and taking him in circles during the investigation.
“I suspect the officer who was transferred has been working with senior officers i n this region, because every time I seek help, I am taken in circles, even in the Police Commander’s office in Kerugoya,” he said.
How did Murkomen respond to the chief's case?
He explained that he chose to bring the matter directly to the Interior Cabinet Secretary after exhausting all other options.
The chief also revealed that his wife had left their home after the incident, leaving him to raise their now 18-year-old son alone.

After hearing the chief’s account, Murkomen ordered immediate investigations into the case and assured the father that justice would be served.
He confirmed that the suspect would face accountability, noting that the deputy inspector of police was present at the forum to oversee the matter.
