Why is Mammito trending?

The two content creators shared a video in a salon, braiding a woman's hair as they gossiped. In the clip, Mammito entered the salon with undergarments and jewellery and tried to sell them to the 'client' whose hair was being fixed by Teacher Wanjiku, but she seemed uninterested.

Wanjiku then asked Mammito, who was in a miniskirt, to help her braid the woman, and she took a leso and wrapped it around her waist before embarking on the job. The content creators rested their legs on the woman's thighs as they braided her hair while conversing.

The two pulled the client's hair as she struggled during the braiding period. All that time, the poor woman seemed pissed off and in pain.

The video went viral, with a section of netizens, among them salonists from Kenyatta and Umoja markets, calling out the duo for sharing the content they termed distasteful. Some made fun of the skit.

Kenyatta Market traders call out Mammito

Several traders from the market threatened to report Mammito's social accounts if the video was not pulled down.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Charles Sirkal, the market's Secretary General, rebuked Mammito and Wanjiku, urging them to be careful of what they put out there.

"They are celebrities and you know celebs' influence on people can be good or bad. People will not take it as a joke, but seriously. It will spoil business for saloonists. If visited a salon and experienced what she depicted in the video, then let her name the saloonists not generalise everyone," he said.

A salon owner who has been relying on digital marketing to get clients, and did not want to be identified, said Mammito's skit would affect their business greatly, slamming her. She told her to pull down the video.

"That was uncalled for. Kama ni content wana shoot let them do something else not joking with our source of livelihoods. Over 10 of my clients sent me the video, and this is not good. Stick to imitating the Kabus! " the angry saloonist said.

The market's treasurer, Ken Wainaina, bashed Mammito and Wanjiiku for their content, saying:

"This is so absurd for celebrities like Mammito and Teacher Wanjiku to tarnish our market's name in the name of creating content. Why mention markets? just do your content without tagging the markets' names. The damage on this is so much for their own selfish gains."

A male salonist who wanted his identity protected voiced his concerns.

Why do clients get detained in salons?

Speaking in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke recently, Atieno, a salonist at Kenyatta Market, shared some of the reasons clients are detained.

She said she faces some challenges in her profession, claiming some clients come up with excuses to avoid paying for services.

She opined that such only happens when clients are not willing to pay.

" Some clients fault M-Pesa and bank apps for delays, asking to be let go and pay later. If the client is new, you can't let them go, they have to pay before leaving because some turn out to be cons when trusted by saloonists," she told TUKO.co.ke.

She listed that some of the other reasons clients are detained are when they totally refuse to pay for services, and breaching salon rules.
