The award, presented in Milton Keynes, celebrates Hon Maina’s relentless efforts to empower vulnerable communities through leadership, education, and mentorship.
Why was Njeri Maina rewarded abroad?
In her acceptance remarks, she expressed deep humility and gratitude, saying: “I thank God for always leading me and giving me the grace to serve diligently.”
Njeri also extended her appreciation to the Milton Keynes community for their warm hospitality and recognition.
The recognition came courtesy of her Tupange Kesho (Let’s Plan Tomorrow) program, which began as a grassroots commitment to uplift communities in Kirinyaga.
She told TUKO.co.ke that while starting the initiative, she had no idea that it would gain international recognition for its impact.
"The program focuses on equipping young people and women with leadership skills, economic opportunities, and civic education.
Njeri grew up in humble household
Arguably, a bigger chunk of what drives her to help the downtrodden is the fact that she, too, grew up in a humble home.
She had to engage in mtumba business while in the university to raise extra money to foot her bills.
Njeri reiterated that the award had reinforced her dedication to ensuring accessible and quality education for the less fortunate as a pillar for long-term community development.
“This award belongs to my entire team. Without their relentless support, the vision wouldn’t have come this far,” Njeri added.
