How did Kenyans help Gatundu grandpa?

Eric Omondi traced James Muiruri, a grandfather caught on camera confronting the staff at Igegania Level 4 Hospital after his grandson died. The distraught man claimed that the child had died due to medical negligence.

On Thursday, May 29, Eric started raising funds for the family, and Kenyans heeded his call. The comedian-turned-philanthropist shared an update on the amount of money raised in a day.

According to Eric, well-wishing Kenyans had donated an eye-popping KSh 1 million in just one day. He noted that some people were unable to send money to Muiruri as he had reached his M-Pesa limit.

Eric then provided the mobile phone number of the deceased child’s mother and urged Kenyans to continue sending her money. Eric also shared a video of an angry Muiruri being held back by a boda boda rider at the hospital.

“Thank you, team Sisi Kwa Sisi. We are at KSh 1 million! The grandfather’s phone has reached its limit. For those unable to send money to him, you can keep sending it to the mother of the child at 0740145871 (Name: Regina Muiruri).”

Despite his efforts, delays continued as medical staff were reportedly on strike. When he requested an ambulance to transfer the child, who was struggling to breathe while on oxygen, the driver allegedly refused, claiming he was waiting for instructions.

As the boy’s condition worsened, Muiruri’s pleas went unanswered, and tragically, the child passed away before receiving proper care.
