Moriang'o said the call had frightened him as the caller vowed to go fetch him from his house over the posts the hat had made on the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

"Guys I have been called by this number, threatening I don't know for which specific post. He said, 'We know you and we are coming for you'. He has called me by my three government names, my passport number and said he knows where I live. He is seeing these posts because he said I should continue posting. I am scared for real," he said.

He also leaked the phone number and sought advice from Kenyans on staying safe, amid the ongoing arrests of bloggers with perceived dissenting views.

"I once got harassed using a number registered to Telkom and Elite Communications. They were trying to scare me. I told him I was recording, and he quickly hung up and switched to a private number. So on my Truecaller, I blocked private numbers. We lose our fear, they lose their power."

"Continue tweeting, that's the only way we'll know you're safe."
