The man gained national attention after a video circulated widely on social media showing him advancing toward heavily armed police while wielding a panga (machete).

His bold defiance, cheered on by onlookers, quickly became symbolic of growing public anger toward perceived police brutality.

Why Nakuru machete man was hospitalised

After his dramatic confrontation with anti-riot officers, the man's story took a troubling turn a day later when reports emerged that he had gone missing.

Eyewitnesses and local sources claimed he was abducted by unknown individuals shortly after the video went viral.

Human rights groups and members of the public raised alarms about his safety, and calls for his release grew louder after a local politician spotlighted the issue.

The man was eventually found dumped in Thika, Kiambu county, in critical condition and taken to the hospital.

Details indicate that he had visible injuries consistent with physical assault and is still undergoing treatment. Sources indicate he remains under medical supervision.

Why Nakuru residents protested against police

The protests that led to the man’s arrest were triggered by the killing of Daniel Nderitu, who was allegedly shot dead by police at his home.

According to residents, officers stormed his house in a double-cabin vehicle and accused him of possessing bhang.

Witnesses said the officers fired three shots in the air before fatally shooting the 47-year-old family man.
