“The security situation was poor, and I remember TSC transferring me to more than four stations within a single year. It was at my last station that things began to fall apart,” he said.
Why did TSC dismiss Ibrahim Ochieng?
Ochieng claimed that although he reported to the school, the then-principal failed to acknowledge his presence or assign him any duties.
“I was at the school for two weeks doing nothing, as the principal did not allocate me any classes. He later told me he had written a letter to TSC stating that I had not reported,” he recounted.
He claimed he became frustrated when summoned to a disciplinary meeting with TSC, and his appeal was allegedly handled in his absence.
“I was asked to produce a letter proving I had reported to the school—yet they knew very well the letter was in my file, which they had. My efforts to retrieve it were futile, and in the process, I lost my job,” he claimed.
Why did Nairobi teacher’s wife dump him?
Ochieng revealed that his wife left him after he lost his job, taking their two children with her.
“I became depressed. I couldn’t afford rent, and that’s how I ended up living on the streets,” he said.
He described life on the streets as extremely difficult, saying his mental health deteriorated, and he turned to alcohol and drug use.
“At one point, I was arrested and became seriously ill while in custody. Fortunately, the Officer Commanding Station released me, and that’s when I decided to turn my life around—I got saved,” noted the teacher.
Ochieng joined the JCC Parklands rehabilitation programme, where he has been receiving support.
He expressed his desire to reclaim his job and reconnect with his family.
“I’m appealing to the TSC, my first-born daughter is now in Form Three, and my second-born is in Grade Four, but I don’t know where they are. I did not commit any crime. Please give me back my job so I can rebuild my life,” he pleaded.

How did Mosiria help Ochieng Ibrahim?
At the rehabilitation centre, Ochieng met Nairobi’s Chief Environment Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, who had been invited to speak to the participants.
Having studied at the same university, Mosiria was moved by Ochieng’s story and offered to support him in getting back on his feet.
The county official told TUKO.co.ke that he had helped Ochieng secure a job at a school in Nairobi as he awaits the outcome of his appeal to TSC.
“I spoke to Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba, who has promised to help follow up on Ochieng’s case and ensure he is reinstated,” said Mosiria.
Mosiria vowed to ensure Ochieng is reintegrated into society and has his life back on track.
