Elvis Masea told TUKO.co.ke that he was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2023, shortly after sitting his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

“It began in November 2022. I was feeling pain in one of my legs, which became very swollen. I sought treatment and visited several hospitals, and eventually had a biopsy done. The results came in January 2023, confirming I had bone cancer,” said Masea.

Since then, the Kuura Secondary School student has been in and out of the hospital seeking treatment.

He noted that well-wishers had contributed money to help him undergo chemotherapy sessions.

Why was Elvis Masea's leg amputated?

While the swelling in his leg reduced, the pain returned severely. Doctors gave him two options: amputation or further chemotherapy. He chose the former but still had to do several rounds of chemotherapy.

“My leg was amputated in November 2023, and I began chemotherapy sessions at Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital,” he explained.

Despite the ordeal, Elvis continued attending school while undergoing treatment to avoid falling behind in his studies.

He told TUKO.co.ke that he is currently admitted at the county hospital following another painful swelling on his shoulder. Doctors have now advised that he undergo radiotherapy in Nakuru before resuming chemotherapy.

Elvis said he doesn’t know how he will get to Nakuru, as his family cannot afford the transport, accommodation, or treatment costs.

He noted that his mother can only visit him at the hospital when he's admitted, but for most chemotherapy sessions, he goes alone to save on transport costs.

“At the moment, I’m in the hospital out of the goodwill of the hospital. They allowed me in because of the pain, and I am very grateful,” he said.

His biggest worry now is how he will travel to Nakuru, where he will stay, and how he will afford the radiotherapy treatment.

Elvis is now appealing to well-wishers and Kenyans of goodwill to support him financially so he can continue treatment and fight cancer.

“My mother does small hustles working for people just to afford daily meals. She cannot carry this burden alone. I need help,” said Elvis.

To support Elvis, contributions can be sent via M-Pesa to his mother: 0768 023 004 – Gladys Mogiti Nyageri.

Why does Samuel Kilonzo need financial support?

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Samuel Kilonzo, also known as Kitiki Sam, sought help to raise KSh 300,000 for his medical expenses.

Sam said he was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Due to his illness, the celebrity barber, who worked at Mintos Barbershop in Mombasa, was forced to stop working.
