Man Nearly Drowns in Nairobi River During William Ruto's Tour in Dandora

A shocking incident was captured during the live coverage of President William Samoei Ruto's tour of Dandora, Nairobi county.

Ruto inspects Nairobi Rivers Regeneration project

The head of state had visited the area to inspect the progress of the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration project, which he claimed had created 20,000 job opportunities for the youth.

Residents came out in large numbers to see the president as he checked on the major development in the area.

As he walked beside Nairobi River, a man was seen in the water, seemingly struggling to swim.

He was alone, and it was heartbreaking screams that alerted a woman who was not part of Ruto's entourage.

Dandora residents scream as man is trapped in Nairobi River

The daring woman had only a helmet and reflector jacket suggesting she was one of the workers at the river which is undergoing major construction to expand it.

She quickly reacted after spotting the man struggling in the water and almost drowning.

Ruto and his entourage either seemed unbothered or unaware of the screams from residents standing on the opposite side of the river.

They continued walking, seemingly ignorant of the life-threatening situation unfolding behind them.

The woman who rushed to save the helpless man did not hesitate as she was determined to get him out of the water.

When she reached him, she held him and swam with him to safety. By then, other people had come to help her.

Her heroic act was only noticed by those who had seen the man struggling in the water, while others remained focused on the president.

After swimming with the man to shallower water, they were pulled out by other people in uniform as crowds gathered around the president, cheering him on and expressing their support.

3 Nakuru primary school children drown while fishing

Separately, a cloud of grief engulfed the Njoro area in Nakuru county after three children drowned in a river while fishing.

The three children, who drowned in the Korogwe River, came from different families, all left devastated by the tragedy.

The deceased included a Grade Five pupil and two Grade Eight pupils from Korogwe Primary School.

Locals were advised to be cautious and to keep watch over their children whenever they go to the river, to prevent such incidents in the future.
