What is an oxygen concentrator and its uses?

Information shared by the Cleveland Clinic shows that a portable oxygen concentrator is a light, small and quiet device that allows a patient to receive supplemental oxygen.

An oxygen concentrator takes in air from the surroundings, filters out nitrogen, and delivers oxygen-rich air with a concentration of about 90% to 95% to a patient battling illnesses such as asthma, lung cancer, and heart failure, among others.

The concentrator differs from the oxygen tank because it filters the air while an oxygen tank delivers liquid or gaseous oxygen.

It also does not require refilling or replacing when you run out of oxygen like a tank, as it continuously purifies the air and delivers it to the patient.

The patient inhales the oxygen through either a plastic mask that covers the mouth and nose or a soft, flexible tube with two prongs that rest inside the nostrils

Using an oxygen concentrator without a doctor's guidance and prescription is not advised.
