The puzzling scene, which happened at night, was captured by an apartment’s CCTV camera.

In the viral clip, the househelp appears to be in a flat on a lower, adjacent floor to the neighbour’s.

How did Kenyan househelp sabotage boss?

She is seen passing two shopping bags, seemingly full of groceries, to the neighbour through the balcony rails, one by one.

As she picked up tomatoes and onions, she deliberately dropped them to ensure the neighbour packed them all.

The woman receiving the items, who appeared tense, kept looking around to make sure no one was watching her.

The househelp then seemingly went inside to fetch potatoes, leaving the neighbour waiting in the corridor, looking suspicious.

After receiving all the items, the neighbour removed a leso hanging on her shoulder to hide the goods before walking down the long, neat corridor of the apartment.

She then climbed the stairs to the top floor of the building, seemingly relieved they had not been caught, unaware that the CCTV was recording everything.

Netizens react to viral househelps CCTV footage

Many social media users condemned the act as theft, with some recalling personal experiences of dishonest househelps.

Others defended such actions, citing mistreatment and food deprivation by employers as possible reasons for the behaviour.

Linah Naz:

“Taking something that doesn’t belong to you without the owner’s permission is stealing.”

Doreen James:

“It’s not bad. Even I once worked as a househelp for another Kamba woman in Baraka Estate, and she would keep me hungry. But my fellow househelp used to sneak me food at night after everyone had slept. I stayed for a month until I got the money to return home. Some bosses have a wicked heart.”

Jackline Wangui:

“Sometimes you find someone who employs a girl but denies her food. One woman told me her boss had installed CCTV in the kitchen, and whenever meat was cooked, it would be stored in the bedroom. Honestly, if you know you can’t treat someone’s daughter well, you should just do the work yourself.”

Jane Wambui:

“Most likely it’s to sell. There was a case where someone went to buy flour from their neighbour and, unfortunately, found the househelp was not around. It turned out the househelp usually told buyers that they were the ones selling, but in reality, it was the employer’s flour they were selling in bulk.”

Jean Limo:

“You buy groceries, and after two weeks, they are finished. These househelps will finish us — so that’s what’s happening.”

Lizzy Khatenje:

“If you know, you know. These are two househelps. The one in yellow forgot to tell her boss the food had run out, and her boss is very strict. So, to avoid being scolded, she just made sure she got food from a cooking pot elsewhere. That’s smart thinking.”

What happened at David Mutaaga’s home?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a Ugandan couple who had just returned home from Switzerland after 30 years were murdered at their house.

CCTV footage obtained from the home showed that the suspects in the murder of David and Deborah Mutaaga gained access to the property by jumping over the perimeter wall.

They then committed the crime and left minutes later through the main gate, giving authorities much to aid in the investigations.
