“I reached class seven. My grandmother is very poor, and I cannot return home because she relies on me. I hustle and send her money, and I also want to change the situation there,” she said.
Why was Haven Kadesa fired by her employer?
Kadesa approached Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, who shared her plight on his social media pages.
The 20-year-old told Mosiria that she was sent out of the house by her employer over a misunderstanding about food.
She explained that although she prepared the meals in the house, the employer decided how much food she was allowed to eat.
“My boss sent me away because of food. They have a CCTV camera in the kitchen, so anytime I finish work and serve myself food, they can see. She comes and cuts the portion I eat,” the young woman stated.
After being thrown out of the house, Kadesa was forced to sleep on the streets overnight, during which her phone was stolen.

Did Mosiria help the Nairobi househelp?
After hearing her story, the county officer promised to find her temporary accommodation while she searched for work.
He said he would arrange for her to stay temporarily at a children’s home, where she could also assist with caring for the children.
“After hearing her out, I contacted one of the homes for street children, and thankfully, they agreed to provide temporary shelter while she waits for an opportunity to work and rebuild her life,” said Mosiria.
Kadesa expressed her willingness to take on any job to get back on her feet.
“I can do any other job apart from being a househelp. I feel it is too much, and the experience I have had is not pleasant,” she said.
Mosiria further urged his followers who are able to assist Kadesa to offer her a job or support in any way.
