Samwel Ndegwa mourned at his home in Igwamiti, Nyahururu, where his late son was buried on Thursday, May 22.
Together with his wife, Sara Wambui, Samwel painfully recounted the last moments with their beloved son.
He disclosed the final words his 42-year-old son spoke to the kindhearted boda boda riders before passing away in their presence.
“He said, ‘They have given me poison. I have been given poison.’ Those were his last words. After that, he could no longer speak. We saw his head—he had been severely hit and was badly injured. His clothes were torn, and one of his shoes was badly ripped. It looked as though he had been dragged by a car,” Samwel narrated.
Where was Father John Maina Ndegwa found?
Samwel said Maina was found on the street by the boda boda riders, trying to raise his hand for help.
Just like in the biblical story of the Good Samaritan, many passed him by—except for one boda boda operator.
“He looked for a boda rider and asked him for help. Maina told them he had been abducted, beaten, and poisoned by strangers. The riders quickly put him on a motorbike. While they were talking, Maina took his last breath,” Samwel said.
Father John Maina Ndegwa's last moments
Since then, Samwel stated that no government official had reached out to the family with any updates.
Workers at St. Louis Igwamiti Parish, where Father Maina served as a priest, also recounted the last time they saw him.
They said he left the church compound alone in his Toyota Hilux Double Cabin around 10:30 a.m.
“We spoke with him. He had called to ask how everything was going. I told him all was well. He asked me to open the gate for him, and then he left. Since that moment, I have no idea what happened,” one church worker emotionally shared.

The worker praised Father Maina, saying he was a kind and generous man to the entire parish staff.
He noted that the deceased had treated them well over the past year during his time as the church’s priest.
“He has done a lot for us. We feel like we have lost a father. This incident has left us puzzled. We worked closely with him,” he added.
TUKO.co.ke reached out to pastor Mwongera on where the destinies of the suspects who killed father Maina lied.
"Well, God is a forgiving God and He is also a just God. This means He can fail to punish them but they will face consequences for their actions. Even if they repent, they will face the consequences which may not be severe because God is also a God of mercy. Like the two thieves who were crucified with Jesus Christ, one repented but the other did not. So they can be redeemed if they repent but they will still be judged, only with mercy," he said.
