Simeon Nyakundi: Joy as TUK Interior Design Student Lands Prestigious Internship in Brazil

Nairobi: A Technical University of Kenya student identified as Simeon Nyakundi has bagged an internship opportunity in Brazil thanks to his exemplary work in environmental design.

How did Nyakundi win the internship?
Nyakundi is an Environmental Design student undertaking a Bachelor of Technology in Interior Design at TUK.
He will join a team of experts researching the adoption of building constructive strategies to enhance energy efficiency.
"His rich portfolio impressed league of panellists from International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) who selected him among the few young scholars exhibiting innovation and passion in their fields of practice," said TUK on their Facebook page.
"Nyakundi has participated in conferences and competitions including; NICE Labs 50/50, Hackathon – Exploring Visual Cultures and the Customer Excellence Center Wallpaper design for Kenya Airways where he won top recognition for creativity, relevance, and aesthetic impact," said the instution.
The International Liaison Office at TU-K has encouraged STEM students to take advantage of the more than 77 overseas internship opportunities available.

UoN student lands a scholarship in Japan
In another story, a UoN student identified as Meshack Odiwuor landed a two-year scholarship in Hokkaido, Japan, and although it was a good move, he expressed mixed emotions about it.
According to Odiwuor, celebrating the anticipated holidays in another country would not be the same as celebrating at home.

Odiwuor also highlighted the cultural differences between the two countries, saying that his friends had told him that the Christmas holiday is often about socialising rather than going home.
Other students who landed big opportunities
- The University of East Anglia, UK, invited students who were eligible for a taught master's to hurriedly apply for a scholarship. The opportunity for funding was the David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health, and was fully funded for people who wished to study in the UK
- A Kenyan student identified as Simon Matiri excelled in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam and scored an A of 84 points, which was very impressive. Simon's sterling performance impressed NYU Abu Dhabi University and they decided that they were not going to leave him behind. The famous university granted him a secure scholarship, which was entirely paid for, meaning that could live there without a care in the world
- Philip Okafor, picked a wallet belonging to a dean at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), and the act of kindness led to opened doors for him in life and a scholarship
