"On the day she died, I had called her in the morning and asked how she was doing, and asked about her brother, whom she said had gone to work. After that, her young child fell ill, so I rushed the child to the hospital. In the evening, I found that she was on the phone with her father. Her father told her that the child was sick but was now well and had eaten. Her father passed the phone to me and we talked.
She did not want me to wash clothes, so she always told me to get a person to do the cleaning and she would pay. So on that day, she sent KSh 1000 to me. I thanked her. At around 9 pm, she called me again and asked how much I had paid at the hospital, which was KSh 700. That was the last conversation that I had with my daughter. I did not know that she was going to leave me," she tearfully recounted.

She said Naomi, who left behind young kids, would advise her on many matters as she trusted her judgment.

"Whenever she came home, she liked staying close to me and her father, and we would talk. She loved us very much as her parents. She was an important child in our lives. She did not like to hear that we were suffering in any way. She would rather take a debt and support her parents. She used to support even her brothers; she was an important child in our lives," she added.

Naomi Chebet's brother speaks

In another story, Naomi's heartbroken brother, Harrison Koech, recounted sleeping in the same house with his sister's dead body.

The young man had arrived home from work only to find her sister lying on the couch, covered in a blanket.

He thought she was sleeping and dared not to wake her up, knowing she was tired from work.

However, in the morning when he called her, she did not respond, prompting him to check on her.

When he touched her body, he felt it was cold, and that was when it occurred to him that his sister was no more.
