According to Ronnie Chirchir, the arrest was made possible through the swift efforts of area Chief Koskei.
How authorities traced baby's mother
The chief coordinated with local authorities and members of the public to trace the woman's whereabouts.
The child, who had been left alone without any form of identification or explanation, was found earlier this week on the hospital premises.
Medical personnel took immediate steps to ensure his safety, providing him with basic care and shelter as efforts began to trace his family.

The case sparked widespread concern both within the hospital and across social media platforms, as Kenyans were moved by the child's vulnerability and the mystery surrounding his abandonment.
When was baby abandoned at Kapkatet Hospital?
It all began when the hospital issued an urgent appeal for information, asking anyone who might recognize the baby or know his family to come forward.
The appeal, which was shared widely across social media, played a crucial role in building momentum for the search.
Thanks to a tip-off from concerned citizens and the coordination led by Chief Koskei, law enforcement was able to locate the child's mother.
She was arrested and taken in for questioning to determine the reasons behind her unpopular decision.
Why did baby's mother abandon him?
Chirchir added that he was called and informed that the woman is depressed and needs some counselling.
Kericho County Children’s Department is now actively involved in the matter and has assured the public that the child’s welfare is a top priority.
Officials say the baby remains under observation and care, pending further directives from child protection services.
“We are relieved that the mother has been found, and we now hope that justice and appropriate support will follow both for her and the child,” an official from the hospital said.
The hospital and local leadership extended their gratitude to all individuals and community members who played a role in facilitating the trace.

Public urged to be vigilant
While the arrest marks a major step forward in resolving the case, authorities are urging the public to continue engaging in community vigilance and to report any cases of child neglect.
They are also encouraging parents who may be struggling to seek help from social services or community leaders rather than resorting to abandonment.
As investigations continue, many are hopeful that this case will spark deeper conversations around parenting support, maternal mental health, and child welfare in Kenya.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
