In November 2021, Regina Rotich and her late husband were involved in a grisly road accident that killed him on the spot and left her with serious injuries in her pelvis and a severely fractured leg.
Nearly four years later, Regina's son Nic Kim speaks to TUKO.co.ke, giving an emotional update on how his mum and the rest of the family have been doing since that painful moment that went viral.
"When we last spoke, I told you about how my mum had to attend my dad's burial in an ambulance and hospital bed after the terrible accident that claimed my dad's life. Three years later, going to four, my mum still has health struggles from the accident," Nick tells this writer.

As the interview progresses, I note the sadness in his voice, accentuated by a deep sigh as he speaks again.
"I wish I could now tell you that everything is well and mum recovered, but the truth is her injuries were so serious. She developed diabetes shortly after the accident, and the pelvic injuries that she sustained interfered with her bladder," he says.
Nic narrates that shortly after his dad's burial and his mum was discharged, he was forced to relocate her to Nakuru, where he resides, so that he could look after her.
"I moved her to a rental house near mine so that I could look after her and take her to the hospital. She has had numerous hospital visits for her diabetes condition, and to treat her leg. She still cannot walk on her own," he adds.

Nic seeks well-wishers' help
Nic notes that hospital bills have been weighing him down, with the financial burden further compounded by the education needs of his younger siblings since his dad, who was the breadwinner, perished.
He is, nonetheless, grateful every day that his mum survived the crash, and he hopes to one day see her walking on her own.
"My dad's death was also not easy on her. We wanted to get her a psychologist to help her process the trauma from losing my dad and the accident, but we could not due to the financial constraints," he states.
Nic is appealing to well-wishers to help in covering his mum's medical needs.
"Even buying the adult diapers is quite pricey. We will be grateful to anyone who can help us with them, even just to last her a few days," he says.
He dreams of renovating their Bomet home one day, so that his mum can return when she is in good health.
The devoted son says covering both his rent and his mum's rent has been quite difficult, and he recently had to downgrade to a KSh 2,000 house to stay afloat and afford all the expenses.
"The home is deserted, and we would need to renovate it so that she can return. Any well-wisher who can also help us with this? We will be grateful," he says.
