Migori: Congregants of Controversial Church Defend Their Faith, Declare Readiness to Die for it
- Members of the St Joseph Missions of Africa Legio Church in the heart of Migori county were up in arms and vowed to fight for their faith unto the death after they were taken to the police station
- A total of 57 people were rescued at the church, while two others who were ailing and had rushed there to get help did not make it
- After they were taken to hospital, they started singing, dancing, and doctors called cops from the Kamagambo Police Station to go pick them

Migori: A total of 57 people who were seeking healing at the controversial St Joseph Missions of Africa Legio Church have vowed to defend it unto death despite two people dying at their premises.

What were the beliefs of Migori church?
The 57 were rescued from the church compound in Migori looking frail, but when they were taken to hospital they refused to be treated and started singing, forcing the doctors to call the police who took them to Kamagambo Police Station in Rongo, Migori county.
According to the leaders of the church, they did not force anyone to not to go to hospital and did not bury anyone without the consent of their families.

"Do you want us to force someone and yet they have held onto their faith? Did you see a sick person among them? You were here before and took photos; now you are here again, ready to disturb us," said a leader of the church.
"You look down on us, you respect some churches and others you don't even respect," she added.
Inside the church, there is also a burial site of the sect's founders. The site is alleged to be sacred ground where followers go to seek blessings.

What action has the Migori church taken?
It has emerged that the St Joseph Missions of Africa Legio Church has moved to court to have an order closing the church and barring faithful from attending quashed.
“We are moving to court to challenge the order by Rongo sub-county deputy county commissioner George Matundura barring 57 members of church from returning to their place of worship," said Benard Acholla, an advocate.
"The church has existed since the 1970s. For some, it’s the only place they’ve ever known—where does he expect them to go? Their belongings are still inside the church,” he added.

Drama as GSU officer buried in Migori church compound
In another story, there were chaos as the family of a deceased GSU officer attempted to exhume his body without a court order at the church.
Dan Ayoo Obura had ailed for some time and was buried at the church after dying during a spiritual session with his wife.
According to relatives, they were not involved in the burial arrangements and were suspicious about the circumstances of his death.
