Family of University of Kabianga Student Explains Cause of Death, Seeks Help to Offset KSh 583k Bill

Bomet - The family of the late Shalody Chepkoech who was a First Year student at the University of Kabianga is appealing for financial help to offset her hospital bill.

Benard Chirchir her brother told TUKO.co.ke that the total bill required at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) was KSh 891, 257.

“The Social Health Authority (SHA) paid KSh 308,000 leaving us to offset the remaining KSh 583,254,” said Chirchir.

Chirchir explained that they hail from a very humble family and raising the amount would be difficult without help.

“She will be buried at our uncle’s place in Bomet because where the parents live is a very tiny space only hosting the main house and kitchen. There is no space for her to be laid to rest,” he shared.

He therefore called on Kenyans of goodwill to help them raise the KSh 583,254 needed to pay her medical bills and release her body for burial.

How did Shalody Chepkoech die?

Chirchir explained that Shalody took herself to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital after feeling a lot of pain in her belly.

The University of Kabianga student developed complications while receiving treatment at Kapkatek and was referred to MTRH for specialised care.

Sadly, she passed away on Thursday, April 2024.

“The doctor told us that her immune system had been compromised and her blood pressure was low, so she was referred to MTRH where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” stated Chirchir.

Nakuru woman dies during childbirth

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that the Nakuru county government explained the circumstances leading to a woman’s death during childbirth, following complaints from the family.

The deceased, Elizabeth Wairimu Njoroge, passed away hours after a successful C-section at Nakuru County Referral Hospital.
