Priscilla disclosed that her nightmare started when she received a call while she was in Section 58, telling her to rush to Milimani junction.

"When I got there, I found people saying a child had been swept away by floodwaters. When I looked, I realised it was my boy. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

Priscilla Karanja blames school for son's death

The grieving mother expressed frustration that the school allowed the children to leave despite the dangerous conditions.

She questioned why the school, where teachers have her contact, did not call her to go and pick the eight-year-old instead of allowing him to walk through that kind of rain.

Glen's sister, still in her school uniform, sobbed uncontrollably beside their mother, unable to process the sudden and heartbreaking loss.

Despite fast responses from security officers and medical teams, the child was found dead by the time help arrived.

Eyewitness recounts drowning incident

George Kimani, one of the first responders at the scene, recalled encountering panicked schoolchildren who told him that one of their friends had drowned after being overwhelmed by rising water.

“It was raining heavily, and when I reached that part of the road, I saw children crying. They pointed out that their friend had been swept away,” said Kimani.

The tragedy has raised questions about school safety protocols, especially during adverse weather conditions.

As the community mourns another life lost to flash flooding, calls are growing for improved infrastructure, better emergency response systems, and stronger school safety measures during inclement weather.
