Anne revealed that her partner had built a house for her, but he did not get to sleep in it.
She broke down while giving her speech in the presence of Homa Bay county governor Gladys Wanga.
"Kwa majina ni Anne Were, msichana kutoka meru. Mheshimiwa amenijengea hapa ata hajalala kwa iyo nyumba (My name is Anne Were, a girl from Meru. The honourable (leader) built this house for me, and he hasn't even slept in it.)"

Mourners present at the ceremony consoled her.
Were's first wife Margaret revealed that her husband and the governor were close, and he named his animals after her.
"I am Mrs Were Margaret, I want to thank you madam governor. You have stood by us. There is nothing I can give you. I know the MP was your friend. It got to a point when a cow gives birth its named Wanga. We have a calf here named Wanga."
She also urged legislators to visit her home more often, even after they lay Were to rest.
Is Ong'ondo Were's first wife in danger?
Margaret said that she feared for her life after her husband's assassination.
She also disclosed that she had been a target of unknown assailants.
The MP's wife revealed that she was followed twice while on her way to work. She asked mourners to pray for her.
The widow condemned Were's killers and appreciated the task ahead of her as the new steward of her household in the absence of her husband.
She promised to co-exist with her in-laws peacefully while revealing that her youngest was in Grade 9.
What happened to Ong'ondo Were?
- The MP was tragically assassinated on April 30 in Nairobi after departing the National Assembly.
- A motorcycle carrying two individuals approached his car; the passenger dismounted and fired multiple shots into the vehicle, fatally wounding Were.
- President William Ruto condemned the killing and has called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
- Were's son urged Kenyans to pray for their family, stating that they were going through a lot of pain
