At the young age of 23, Jeyb Classic is a man of two worlds. By day, he is the pillar of his household, juggling the family’s breadwinner responsibilities. By night, he retreats into a world of lyrics, beats, and boundless imagination.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the youngster disclosed that his art is not merely a passion but a lifeline borne from a place of responsibility.

His story began in Kisumu, at Joel Omino Secondary School, where he discovered a love for both discipline and creativity.

The dual values, often seen as opposites, became the foundation of his journey as he learned how to balance structure with expression.

It is a balance that he says has carried him ever since he began experimenting with music during his teenage years.

Jey B Classic reiterated that every song he writes and every performance he gives, he does it all for his family.

But his biggest stage came unexpectedly during the 2017 general elections. His music caught the attention of former Starehe MP Charles Njagua aka Jaguar.

Back then, he was still campaigning and invited the young man to contribute his talent to the campaign.

In an interesting twist of fate, the campaign offered him a chance to contribute to an initiative that saw hundreds of lives changed.

“I saw students get bursaries and go to school because of the awareness we raised. Music gave me a platform to help others,” he says.

Yet behind the applause and public moments lies a more personal rhythm—one of early mornings, financial stress, and the weight of expectations.

With limited resources and no formal job, every performance, studio session, or gig becomes a calculated step between survival and self-expression.

Jey B Classic admits that he often wonders if he should dump his passion for music and find a regular job.

“However, I remember how far I've come and how much it means to people who listen, and those it feeds behind the scenes. That keeps me going,” he adds.

Jey B Classic's breakthrough that never came

His younger siblings look up to him. His mother, who placed the entire family's hope on him, beams with pride whenever his music plays.

Jey B Classic says he thought his breakthrough had come when he once had a sitting with former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
